Acorn PC presents from First Choice Homes

Acorn Recovery Projects have had a technological breakthrough in their recovery programmes thanks to First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO), with the gifting of ten reconditioned Dell computers.

On Monday 29th June, FCHO handed over the computers to ACORN Recovery Projects centre at Brunswick House Oldham, as part of their digital inclusion strategy which aims to help worthy causes.

Acorn Recovery Projects provide a range of innovative drug and alcohol rehabilitation services across the North West, including reduction and motivation programmes, abstinence treatment programmes, combined treatment programmes, prison based recovery programmes,  supported accommodation, and social enterprise.

The STAR programme which is the second stage of recovery based at Brunswick House, focuses on helping clients progress into education and training, which with the computers will further the possibilities for clients, and help to create a positive impact on their recovery.

One client emphasised the convenience of the computers and the effect this will now have on his recovery saying, “These computers will allow me to research and complete coursework in the same building, I won’t need to go to the library to carry out my work, I can do it all at Acorn”

Sarah Hanson, Managing Director of Acorn Recovery Projects, part of The Calico Group said:

“We are really grateful for this generous donation from First Choice Homes Oldham, the computers will have a significant positive impact on our clients and will help to improve their employability, widen their skills and help with their recovery programme.”

First Choice Homes is a “not for profit” housing association, managing approximately 12,000 homes in Oldham.

Stephen Repton, Head of ICT at FCHO said:

“FCHO are really proud of the digital work we are doing within our communities. Donating computers to organisations such as Acorn is a key part of our digital inclusion strategy. It means we can reach people in the communities we serve and help to engage them through the use of technology, which in turn will help them to gain skills, confidence and experience and provide access to training and employment opportunities.”
