Acorn Recovery Projects employee goes extra mile for charity

An employee at Acorn Recovery Projects has put on his running shoes to help raise money for a leading cancer charity.

James Downie, Lead Counsellor for Acorn Recovery Projects, took part in the recent 2019 Asics Greater Manchester Marathon in support of Cancer Research UK.

James successfully completed the 26.2 mile marathon – the fifth largest in Europe – in 5 hours and 19 minutes and, thanks to the generosity of friends, family and fellow employees across The Calico Group, he raised nearly £900, easily smashing his initial target of £500.

James said:

“I’m so thrilled with my result! After 13 miles, my feet were badly blistered and my head said ‘give up – just do half’. I didn’t, though – I fought through it and reached the finish line.

“I want to thank everyone for their kind messages and support for Cancer Research UK. Everyone’s been amazing – the atmosphere at the run was incredible. I felt fully supported throughout, and it made me feel proud to be from Manchester.”
