ACORN Recovery Projects implements new service to help the families of people living with addiction throughout Stockport

ACORN Recovery Projects is rolling out a new programme specifically designed for the families of people living with addiction within Stockport.

The programme named Family RAMP aims to help families to cope with their loved one’s addictions, learning more about the issues they are dealing with and provide essential guidance to help the family to feel supported.

This family focussed programme was developed with the awareness that there are many services out there for people with substance misuse problems, but historically there is a lack of support for the families. Very often it is the families who are ignored when a problem has been identified, Family RAMP highlights that addiction is something that affects everyone around the individuals dealing with addiction.

The Family RAMP is an educational programme with much more; it provides a safe environment to families where they are able to discuss their experiences and issues with qualified people, and access support and guidance where needed. The programme is available to those with or without loved ones currently in services.

“Acorn made a decision to open the door to help suffering family members in Oldham,” says Simon Cowley, Operations Manager for Acorn Recovery Projects.

“Our experience shows that the problem is not just restricted to those families with loved-ones accessing services. We are casting the net wide to capture all those with a problem within the family unit.”

The confidential service is available to all family members over the age of 18, taking place over a twelve week period on Thursday evenings 6.30pm-8pm at ACORN Recovery Projects, Fulstone House, 130 Mile End Lane, Stockport.
