Calico staff cha-cha-cha for charity

A group of twinkled-toed Calico staff are putting on their dancing shoes to help raise money for a number of charities.

The special Calico Come Dancing event has been organised as part of Calico’s Wellbeing Initiative, aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of staff, and strengthening relationships across The Calico Group.

Nineteen novice couples from across The Calico Group have been learning a series of tough and challenging dance routines over several months, which they will perform at the event, which will take place at the prestigious Blackpool Tower Ballroom on Friday 24th March.

Under the guidance of Stephen Reece-Buck, from Energize Dance and Fitness in Burnley, and Martina Coggins, from Tracing Steps in Oldham, the group has worked hard to master every step of the Waltz, Tango, Jive and Cha-Cha-Cha.

The event has been made possible thanks to money raised from ticket sales and generous sponsorship from local businesses.

The dancers are also raising money via Justgiving, and all profits from the event will be split between each couple’s chosen charities.

Carmel Roberts, Calico’s Learning and Development Manager, said:

“It’s been fantastic to watch all our dancers develop over the past few months. The progress they’ve made is unbelievable, and they should all be really proud of themselves.

“It’s been particularly heartening to see staff getting on really well with colleagues from different parts of The Group whose paths they otherwise wouldn’t have crossed.

“Not only is the competition providing a great opportunity for staff to improve their wellbeing, but it’s also helping to raise money for a range of fantastic causes.”

The Calico Group consists of a range of innovative charities and businesses working together to make social profit, rather than financial profit, the driving force behind our wide range of high quality services.
