The challenge

The Horizon services deliver drug, alcohol and non-clinical sexual health support to up to 170 new clients every month. At any one time, there are approximately 1,400 people receiving treatment and support from Horizon.

Delphi Medical was granted the Blackpool contract in 2016 and has been delivering clinical treatment to Blackpool residents. As Delphi is now part of The Calico Group, it is now able to join up with Acorn Recovery Projects to help provide an integrated service of clinical help alongside therapeutic groups for those individuals who are going through a community detox or preparing for residential detoxification.

Delphi and Acorn working together to deliver a seamless service across the Horizon contract illustrates yet more fantastic joint working and how bringing two companies together means that Calico can provide a service which is experienced both clinically and therapeutically.

Going one step further

Clients are supported in many different ways through Horizon, depending on their needs. The RAMP (Reduction Motivation Programme) and DEAP (Dependency Emotional Attachment Programme) are groups run by Acorn staff, and prepare clients for a life potentially free from substances.

Some clients choose community detox, but many need additional support of residential detox, taking themselves away from everyday life so that they can concentrate on their wellbeing and put themselves first.

Making a real difference to people’s lives

Delphi and Acorn are working together to provide a seamless service which is inclusive of community and residential detoxes, alongside pre-detox groups such as DEAP and RAMP, which allow individuals to engage in therapeutic groups whilst going through a community detox.

“The programme has given me structure and helped me see the effects of my using. The content of the presentations is very good and getting better. I enjoyed learning about addiction and thought the groups were good. I now have days where I reduce my intake of my main problem substance.”

“The programme has changed my thinking about alcohol and how I behave. It has helped me to reduce my intake of alcohol. It has changed my future aspirations and goals, as I now want to stop drinking and am waiting for a detox. I would recommend others to give it a go.”
