Our careers and employability service, Calico Enterprise has been nominated at this years’ Enterprise in Society Awards! Hosted by Selnet, the Enterprise in Society Awards highlight and celebrate impacts made throughout Lancashire’s business community over the past 18 months. Calico Enterprise is nominated in the Work or Training Social Enterprise of the Year category with their teams supporting over 400 participants in the past 12 months alone.
Through their employability support programmes, Calico Enterprise empower individuals, often facing multiple barriers to employment, as they strive to move closer to the labour market. Their teams also work within schools with the aim of preventing young people aged 15 & 16 from becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). Working with Pupil Referral Units, we achieved 100% success rate, supporting over 50 young people into further training or employment.
As part of the Calico Group, Enterprise are able to offer work placement opportunities that allow participants to develop practical skills and progress towards their career goals. This also includes work with DFN Project SEARCH, supporting people aged 16-24 with learning disabilities and autism spectrum conditions through an internship to build their skills and experience in the workplace. Calico Enterprise have also supported over 50 Kickstart placements across our Group with 94% of participants moving on to sustainable employment.
Despite the pandemic, positive outcomes have continued across Enterprise services with teams quickly adjusting to ensure participants keep in contact. In addition, their staff arranged food parcels, visited hospitals, took people shopping, and sat on doorsteps to remain connected with their participants. As restrictions have eased, we have blended our approach to support people coming out of the pandemic.
