The Calico Group to provide Dementia Awareness Training for staff

The Calico Group is set to provide a programme of Dementia Awareness Training to increase understanding of the illness among its staff.

Following Dementia Awareness Week – an annual awareness raising campaign aimed at encouraging people to take action to improve the lives of those affected by dementia – The Calico Group have announced the training session, which will provide support for staff who may come in to contact with customers who have dementia.

Delivered by AFTA Thought, who provide drama-based training, the programme will provide staff with knowledge to help improve the care they deliver to those living with the illness.

The session will also give staff an increased awareness of how to recognise the signs of dementia, and how to manage the needs of those with dementia appropriately.

Carmel Roberts said:

“We want all our colleagues to be aware of dementia and how this can impact our customers, our families, and even ourselves.

“We will support people who are caring for, living with or suffering from dementia. Through our training, we want to encourage staff to step into the person with dementia’s world, not getting them to step into ours.”
