Work starts on site for new 28-bed Whitworth Care Trust facility

Work has begun on the construction of local charity Whitworth Care Trust’s new 28-bed, two-storey facility.

The state of the art building will provide residential and dementia care, and will replace the existing care home on Market Street in Whitworth.

The development will replace the existing facility, and will provide additional capacity to meet the needs of our older population, including those with dementia.

Work will be carried out by Ring Stones Maintenance and Construction and is due to be completed by spring 2017.

Partners working on the development include architects Pozzoni, employers agency CPC, and structural engineers Francis Bradshaw Partnership.

Services will continue to be delivered at the existing site whilst work is underway on the new facility.

Karen Henderson, Calico’s Independent Living Manager, said:

“We are excited that work on the new development has now started.  The new service will enable more customers to be able to access our valuable care and support services in the future.

“The development will support more Whitworth residents to be able to live in Whitworth longer term, removing the need for them to move away from the area, and from their family and friends.”

Whitworth Care Trust, which manages Sunnyside Rest Home and Sunnybank Day Centre, provides residential accommodation and support services for older people.
