In Memory of Wyn McGeorge MBE

A champion of social housing and charity work has died at the age of 89.

Mrs Wyn McGeorge MBE, devoted over 40 years of her life to improving homes in the area and raising money for charity.

Wyn was first involved with Calico Homes in 1999, when the company was formed. She was a dedicated, committed and perceptive tenant elected Board member and former Chair of the Board, as well as a tenant and community group leader.

Wyn played a significant part in the successful development and growth of Calico Homes, and the wider Calico Group. Her insight and knowledge shaped the way in which tenants’ views are heard.

After many years’ service to Calico Homes, Wyn stepped down from the board in 2016 and her decades of community work were honoured by naming the apartment block on the Primrose Mill development, McGeorge House, after her and her late husband Ken.

She will be greatly missed.

Anthony Duerden, Chief Executive of The Calico group said:

“Wyn played a leading role in making sure Calico was set up in the first place, and helped shape Calico in to the organisation it is today.

“Wyn was wise, supportive, inspirational and really did make a difference to Calico and Burnley.”
