Our journey towards net zero

We’ve committed to becoming a net zero carbon organisation by 2050 and we’re already making positive steps to reduce our environmental impact. From lowering our carbon emissions to championing diversity and supporting our communities, we aim to work together towards a greener future for everyone.

What is net zero?

Net zero refers to the balance between the amount of greenhouse gas that’s produced and the amount that’s removed from the atmosphere. We can achieve this through a mix of emission reduction and emission removal activities.

What can you do?

Addressing climate change requires action from everyone. Everything from turning your thermostat down to switching off the lights, using less water and walking more instead of driving can contribute towards a greener future for all.

Our pledge

Whilst empowering our values, we pledge to minimise our carbon footprint and commit to striving towards Net Zero. We recognise that climate change doesn’t discriminate and emphasise the shared responsibility we all have within our community to ensure future generations have a clean and sustainable world to live in.

Delivered through collaborative efforts, embracing diversity and raising environmental awareness, we pledge to continue to do the right thing and make a real difference to the community and our planet as a whole.

Investing in our homes

Supporting you

Solar panels

We’re investing £25m into improving our properties over the next 5 years. This includes replacing doors and windows and upgrading insulation to improve EPC ratings.

Our Tenancy Sustainment Team help customers to understand energy bills and meter readings, as well as tackling fuel poverty through income maximisation and financial support.

We’re introducing solar panels in our new projects, including our Dovestone Gardens development and all properties on our Kinross new homes.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals

We’re inspired by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals outlined by the United Nations. These goals recognise that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

Our achievements so far

Planting wildflowers in neighbourhoods

Working with Burnley Borough Council, we’re planting wildflowers in our neighbourhoods. This not only contributes to wildlife, but it also reduces CO2 emissions and brightens up the landscape with meadows where insects, birds and insects can thrive.

Tackling local poverty

We work hard to help support people in our community to reduce the amount of people living in poverty. Through our partnership with Burnley Together, we help provide clothing, food, housing and financial support to those most in need.

Consulting the community

Our Going Green team had the pleasure of visiting Dovestone Gardens, our new extra care facility. It was a heart-warming and inspiring morning spent chatting with residents, sharing the vision of Going Green, and hearing their wonderful ideas for their outdoor garden space.

From colourful pollinator-friendly flowers to raised vegetable beds and quiet spots for reflection, the residents’ enthusiasm reminded us of why we do what we do, and we’re excited to turn their ideas into a green, vibrant reality.

Planting 3,000 new trees

Over the past year, we’ve helped Burnley Borough Council to plant over 3,000 new trees in Towneley Park. Moving forward, we want to continue supporting with planting more trees to help make the Burnley landscape even greener.
