It’s customary to send a message of hope and thanks at Christmas, but I know that, for many people, this is not the Christmas they hoped for. And for many more, this is likely to be a very lonely and unhappy time.
With everyday life still affected by COVID and restrictions in place that are making life difficult for everyone it’s important to recognise that this year has been even more difficult for the most vulnerable in our communities.
For everyone who has been involved in providing support, care and reassurance to people who are struggling this year, I would like to say thank you.
I’d like to recognise the enormous effort so many of our teams and partners who are making sure that services and support are delivered for those who most need it over Christmas.
Thank you to our nurses, care assistants, support workers, repairs operatives, volunteers, and everyone else who provide domestic abuse support through SafeNet, homelessness services through Gateway, emergency repairs for Calico Homes customers, residential care at Barley View, and drug and alcohol services the Delphi and Acorn.
I am also grateful to everyone who is playing an active role in Burnley Together, which continues to provide support, food and more for anybody who needs it. This Christmas that also includes the fantastic toy appeal and food for vulnerable and isolated people in our communities.

It is clear that the New Year will bring significant challenges across our communities, but the remarkable work, kindness, and commitment I have seen from our staff, volunteers and partners has made me hopeful.
