Billy Hasler-Cregg from Ring Stones Maintenance and Construction has been awarded ‘Highly Commended’ in the ‘Young Employee of the Year’ category at the Burnley Business Awards 2019 ceremony, held at Towneley Hall.
After initially training as an academy footballer with Burnley FC then moving onto Rochdale AFC as a professional footballer, Billy, 22, began his career at Ring Stones Maintenance and Construction as a Technical Apprentice in 2017 and is now an integral part of the team.
Billy’s day-to-day role at Ring Stones Maintenance and Construction includes liaising with external consultants such as Architects, Engineers and Remediation Consultants to ensure that we have all of the necessary and up to date information for our sites, providing technical support to both the site and commercial teams and working with statutory bodies on road and sewer legal agreements, amongst other responsibilities.
The Calico Group supports young people into employment through apprenticeship opportunities across their diverse sectors, with approximately one in ten employees being apprentices.
Billy said: “After leaving professional football I struggled and was in a really dark place. I’m proud of my both my professional and personal progression since joining Ring Stones, which has been influenced massively by the people I work with here.
“From someone with no background in construction, to essentially managing my own department in 18 months shows how the company trusts and nurtures young people to enable them to be successful.”
