Residents came together at Accrington Stanley’s Wham Stadium to hear more about the next steps for the former Accrington Victoria Community Hospital site, at a well-attended public engagement event.
The drop-in session brought together representatives from The Calico Group, Ring Stones Construction and Participation Works to speak directly with local people about the dismantling of the site, how it will be managed safely, and the steps being taken to minimise disruption.
There was strong interest from those who attended, with many thoughtful conversations throughout the evening. Topics such as traffic, parking and how the site will be accessed during works were common themes, helping to shape the approach as plans move forward.
Looking to the future, residents also heard more about how decisions will be made and the role the community will continue to play in shaping the future of the site.

Following the evening, Darryl Baker, Head of Communications for The Calico Group, said:
“What stood out today was the honesty of everyone who took the time to speak to us – the pride people feel in Accrington, the hospital, and its long history in the town really came across.
“At the same time, there was a shared sense of optimism about what comes next. I’m pleased that so many residents have expressed an interest in staying involved and playing a part in shaping a development that reflects the needs of the community.”

The Calico Group and partners remain committed to a customer-led approach, working closely with local people as plans progress to ensure the future of the site delivers lasting benefit for Accrington.
