New fencing and security improvements are being installed at the former Accrington Victoria Community Hospital site as preparations continue for its future regeneration. The work forms part of the next stage of activity at the site, which is being progressed by The Calico Group and Ring Stones following earlier community engagement with local residents.
From Monday 6 July, specialist surveys of the building will begin to help inform future work on the site. The surveys will take place both inside and outside the former hospital and are expected to last for around six weeks. Working hours will be Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, with no weekend or out of hours activity planned.
To support this work, vehicle access to the site will be reinstated and the Garden Street entrance reopened. Existing obstructions will be removed temporarily to allow survey teams to carry out their work safely and efficiently.
During this period, contractors will also install more robust perimeter fencing and secure access gates. Existing security measures, including mobile CCTV towers, will remain in place throughout the works.
The former Accrington Victoria hospital has been an important part of the town for more than 130 years and continues to hold strong local significance. Following its closure, partners have been developing plans for the site’s future, with the long-term ambition of creating a community focused development that responds to local needs and builds on extensive engagement with residents and stakeholders.
The current activity is focused on making the site safer, gathering the information needed for future stages of work, and ensuring the site remains secure while plans continue to develop. Further opportunities for residents to stay involved in shaping the future of the site will be shared as the project progresses.
