Calico Homes residents put on their dancing shoes to boost their wellbeing

Residents from one of Calico Homes’ Independent Living properties are holding a special Tea Dance to boost their wellbeing, with support from staff across The Calico Group.

At the April event, residents from Crow Wood Court in Burnley will be able to take part in some gentle ballroom dancing, as well as enjoying some delicious food and refreshments.

Staff who took part in The Calico Group’s 2017 charity fundraiser Calico Come Dancing will be on hand to help teach the residents some new routines, and will put on a special performance of the Waltz.

Light exercise is essential to improving the wellbeing of over-55s – according to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, physical activity can help older people to maintain the ability to live independently, reduce blood pressure, and keep their bones, muscles and joints healthy.

Michelle Hurlstone, Independent Living Officer for Calico Homes, said:

“All our residents are really looking forward to the event. It will be a great and unique opportunity for them to get together in a fun, relaxed environment, and will really help to boost their wellbeing.

“It will also give staff the chance to share some of the skills they have learnt, and to meet and have fun with our residents.”
