Community invited to help shape future of Accrington Victoria site

Residents are being invited to take part in a public engagement event to discuss the next steps for the former Accrington Victoria Community Hospital site.

The drop-in session will take place at Accrington Stanley’s Wham Stadium on Thursday 4 June between 4pm and 7pm, with representatives from The Calico Group, Ring Stones Construction, and Participation Works on hand to talk about the upcoming dismantling of the site and the arrangements in place to keep the site secure and minimise disruption for local residents.

Colleagues will also be out in the local community to share next steps with nearby residents.

The event follows a previous well-attended engagement session at Accrington Library where more than 100 local people began shaping ideas for the future of the site.

The Calico Group will take a customer-led approach to the project, working with local people to shape plans as they develop and ensure the future of the site reflects what the community wants and needs. Ring Stones Construction has also committed to working closely with the local community throughout the dismantling process, supported by its Considerate Constructors accreditation and a focus on minimising disruption, maintaining high standards on site and keeping people informed.

The Accrington Victoria site has been part of local life for more than 130 years and continues to hold strong emotional significance for the community.

The redevelopment of the site is set to create a new GP surgery, a community hub, and housing for Hyndburn’s older people who have an identified care need but want to continue living independently.

The event will also provide information on how decisions will be made and how community views will continue to influence plans as the project progresses.

Further engagement activity will take place as proposals develop, with partners committed to keeping people informed and involved at every stage.
