Milestone Extra Care Development to Host Public Event in Burnley this July

Brock Carmichael Burnley CGI Oct 21

The Calico Group is hosting a public event at The Prairie Sports Village in Burnley next month, encouraging people to learn more about plans for a brand-new extra care development in the town.

The £19m development will be the first of its kind in Burnley and will transform derelict land off Briercliffe Road into 93 extra care apartments.

This will provide specialist assisted living accommodation in a neighbourhood setting, aimed at improving older people’s quality of life and reducing the risk of social isolation. The scheme will be designed primarily for people aged over 55 who require extra support while maintaining as much independence and dignity as possible.

The event, taking place on Tuesday 5 July between 2pm – 6pm, will showcase details of the wider scheme, with staff from Ring Stones Maintenance and Construction and Calico Enterprise on hand to talk about job and apprenticeship opportunities.

There will also be the opportunity for guests to have their say towards naming the development and register their interest for the apartments, for themselves or their loved ones. Light refreshments will be provided on the day.

As lead provider, The Calico Group, along with partners from East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, Burnley Borough Council, the University of Central Lancashire, and Lancashire County Council, has been working closely with people in the area to develop the much-needed scheme.

The development will enable residents to stay closer to their communities by seeking this type of support within the borough, as opposed to having to travel further afield. This is supported by Homes England, with funding provided via grants and Calico’s borrowing capacity to help support this development.

Construction work by Ring Stones Maintenance and Construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2022, with completion expected in 2024.
