Colleagues from across the Calico Group headed over to Arnside on Friday to raise money for two great charities.
Together, the group have already managed to raise over £1500 – which will be split between Samaritans UK and Lancaster & District Homeless Action Service (LDHAS).
Wellbeing and Inclusion Lead, Mel O’Neill, organised the event. Talking about the successful day, she said: “The day was about bringing people together. Colleagues from different services, teams, and locations connected in a shared experience that reminded us we are all contributing to something bigger than any one role or team”.
The group, which was made up of nearly 100 colleagues from different services, walked nearly 6-miles over the bay from Arnside to Grange over Sands. The walk was guided by the Guide Over Sands Trust, who helped the group to safely navigate across the bay.
Catherine Hartley from Finance, who took part in the walk, said: “It was a great experience. The weather was beautiful, and the scenery was stunning – it was made even better by doing it all for a great cause!”
Tractors also followed close by, as the group trekked through water which came up to a metre high. Whilst stopping for a snack break, some colleagues also stopped for a splash in the water as temperatures reached nearly 25 degrees.
Samaritans UK provide life-saving mental health support for those in crisis, whilst Lancaster & District Homeless Action Service (LDHAS) help people experiencing homelessness by providing food, shelter, and support.
Mel concluded: “A huge amount of work happened behind the scenes to make the day a success, and we’re grateful to everyone who took part.”
“It was inspiring to see new relationships forming and a real sense of unity growing across the group. Thank you to everyone who supported us, donated, or simply took the time to share encouragement”.
