Calico Dances the Blues Away

Here at Calico, our success lies with our people and they are at the heart of our business. The current pandemic has meant that we have not been able to see family, friends and colleagues which has been a drain on people’s morale. So, as a group, we are determined to stay connected now more than ever. Bringing colleagues from across the Group together through our One Calico culture to collaborate and learn.

One of the ways we have been able to spend time together is through weekly zoom dance lessons. The lessons are called “Happy Feet”, they have been developed by Learning Development Manager, Carmel Roberts, as a fun way to bring us together and keep active as a Group during the lockdown.

“ We understand that having fun and connecting with colleagues from across our group is important, as it allows us to see people we have not seen for a while. We can now see each other every week in a fun way to dance and catch up.  This is more than physical fitness, this is holistic wellbeing for our colleagues and their families.  It’s an innovative and inexpensive way to improve wellbeing.” – Carmel Roberts

We have teamed up with Stephen Reece-Buck at Energize Dance & Fitness Academy in Burnley to host the virtual dance sessions. The Manguera, a Latin dance kicked off the first two weeks with over 60 colleagues, families and clients attending. Everyone from ages six to eighty-six, grabbed their dancing shoes to learn new skills and have fun together. Participants dancing the lockdown blues away included residents at Barley View, our residential and dementia care home and residents at Acorn Recovery Projects.

With the gyms being closed, this has been a great way to get active and feel closer to colleagues. In the words of our favourite judge on strictly, Happy Feet is “ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS DARLINGS”
