BeWell nominated for Housing Heroes award!

Calico’s work on the BeWell initiative has seen the team shortlisted at this year’s Housing Heroes awards. The shortlist was announced earlier this month with a virtual awards ceremony to be held in September. BeWell has made the shortlist for Support and care team of the year.

BeWell forms part of the “Personal Health Budget”, launched in October 2017 and commissioned by NHS England. The BeWell team work in partnership with health and social care, to provide individuals with an integrated package of care.

The BeWell service is a lifeline to those involved, changing the way they access care and support. Through a person-centred approach, the service empowers people and communities to take an active role in their health and wellbeing with greater choice and control over the care they need. By doing so, people with long-term health conditions and disabilities can shape their lives by making the key decisions about their own health, wellbeing and care.

As the NHS faces unprecedented demand, schemes like BeWell are attempting to provide relief. With those suffering long-term health problems currently accounting for 70% of NHS spend, a wellbeing-centred approach aims to deliver improved health and wellbeing, quality of care and better use of resources.

‘I’m so delighted that the team has made the shortlist for Care and Support Team of the year. They have worked incredibly hard to support individuals to develop personalised care plans. These will enable people to have more control over their care and to live happy and fulfilling lives’. Leanne Townley – Floating Support Coordinator, Calico
