Ring Stones Maintenance and Construction has begun work on the second phase of a large, award-winning development project in Padiham.
The Perseverance Mill site was formerly a derelict Mill building on Albion Street, which sat empty for more than 15 years. It was transformed by Ring Stones in partnership with Calico Homes in 2018 to provide 56 high-quality affordable homes.
This second phase, to be carried out on the buildings between Albion Street, Wytham Street and Brook Street, will include partial demolition works and vast refurbishment to enable the team to create 10x 1-bed self-contained apartments and to reinstate a 2-bed house that was amalgamated into the existing building.
The first phase of the development won the Regeneration award at the RICS Awards North West last year for blending the new homes with existing heritage and reopening the nearby culvert which had previously been concealed for decades beneath the mill building.
Due to complete in 2021, the project aims to help improve the local community and provide homes for local residents.
Some of the original external features of the mill will be used on the new building to acknowledge the heritage of the site. Plans also include on-site parking and incidental landscaping for the apartments on land cleared from the Wyatt Street demolition.
Ring Stones were recently appointed as part of a new £750m Innovation Chain North framework of Contractors and Consultants from Great Places Housing Group. This will provide them with even more opportunities to expand their growing portfolio, which ranges from new build homes and maintenance work to refurbishments and commercial builds.
James Macaree, Managing Director at Ring Stones said: “It’s great to see this next phase begin as we continue to invest and make improvements in the area. We’ve had wonderful feedback from residents who are keen to see this land utilised and we are looking forward to providing more high-quality, affordable housing within the local community.”
